Women in AI – New York: our April WaiTALK is a fireside chat with Cortnie Abercrombie, Founder/CEO of AI Truth and Sunny Zhang PhD, Founder/President of Z LAB and Yonah Welker, Entrepreneur-In-Residence at Women in AI USA – who will share their perspective of AI hackathons and Ethical entrepreneurship, and ultimately what keeps them brimming with new ideas within the AI landscape. We will have a Q&A session with inspired pioneers as we discuss the opportunity AI provides womXn looking to expand as entrepreneurs and what that means for all of us in the coming years.
During this event, updates from our Women in AI Hackathon USA 2021 program will be shared – Women in AI USA Zero Exclusion hackathon is designed to reshape principles of knowledge exchange and tech from the bottom. Happening on June 4-6, 2021 and open to everyone – WaiHackathonUSA is completely equity free, and focused on powerful impact zebras, not unicorns. Cortnie Abercrombie was named one of the “Top 100 Innovators in Data and Analytics” and one of “12 Brilliant Women in AI & Ethics to Watch”. She’s a top advisor to Fortune 500 companies on responsible AI and data innovation practices, and sits on boards advising startups, universities, and other non-profits. Cortnie founded responsible AI non-profit AI Truth and is a Founding Editorial Board Member for Springer’s AI and Ethics Journal. Prior to that she led a Shark-Tank style AI solutions incubator at IBM as well as launching the world’s first and largest Chief Data and Analytics Officers communities.
Sunny Zhang PhD spent the past 20 years focusing on innovation adoption, digital marketing, social networks, and international business as a researcher, educator, and entrepreneur. She is a marketing professor at the University of St. Thomas and the founder and president of Z LAB, partnering with corporate and individual innovators to build and grow digital platforms. Dr. Zhang obtained her Ph.D. in Marketing with a minor in Social Psychology and her Master of Business from the Kelley School of Business, Indiana University in Bloomington, and her M.S. in Applied Psychology from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing. She has been teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in marketing, management, entrepreneurship, and e-business for 16 years and received multiple awards for her unique approach to project-based learning with local and international businesses and nonprofits. She is currently focused on Z LAB Ventures, building and investing software startups to bridge the digital divide and bring AI for all.
Yonah Welker as a global citizen and explorer, who’s on the mission “to connect the dots”, and driven by personal journey, Yonah’s ambition is to co-create technologies and products which shape the future of learning, wellbeing, ability, inclusive and sustainable ecosystems. Working on the intersection of tech and society since 2005 – when Yonah became a tech explorer and launched a hardware think tank. Over his journey, Yonah has founded and co-created tech startups and labs, helped to facilitate tech ecosystems through North America to APAC, MENA, Africa, Europe, screened over 2000 teams, contributed projects in ethics (AI, tech), deep tech, impact and sustainability (European Commission-funded projects and open calls). He has guided and screened the world youngest tech and AI inventors, Ashoka and United Nations fellows, talent from Google, Singularity University, 500 Startups, Techstars, Masschallenge, alumni of MIT, Stanford, Oxford and Women in AI USA.
