In 2018, ENGINE’s Cassandra explored entertainment and leisure trends among youth around the globe. At that time, nearly four in 10 global youth said they liked popular culture because it helps them feel more connected to other cultures and countries, with young people in Indonesia (52%), India (49%), China (46%), and South Africa (46%) being especially likely to feel this way.

But a lot has changed around the globe since then, and a lot has also changed in terms of entertainment – in fact, in 2018 TikTok was still Musical.ly! What has happened to entertainment around the globe with Gen Zs as a result of the pandemic? Are tastes in entertainment becoming more similar or less? What are some of the new trends in entertainment that may emerge post-COVID around the globe.
