Jayson first picked up a film camera at 18 and fell in love with it’s ability to capture and create new stories and adventures. Since then he’s never stopped peering at the world through a viewfinder.
Jayson is currently serving as the Director of Photography for Season 4 of Producer Dick Wolf’s NBC hit CHICAGO FIRE. During Season 2 and 3 he served as the 2nd Unit DoP for the show while also shooting 8 episodes as the main unit DoP. Prior to joining CHICAGO FIRE, he photographed nearly two dozen features; recent highlights include shooting AMNESIAC for Director Michael Polish (starring Wes Bentley and Kate Bosworth) and the festival hit COLDWATER for Director Vincent Grashaw. Past work includes shooting for Directors Peter Paige (LEAVING BARSTOW), Barbara Stepansky (TAKEN FOR RANSOM), and David Mickey Evans (SMITTY). In 2011 he served as the Los Angeles Unit Director of Photography for the Lionsgate hit FROM PRADA TO NADA.
His work has screened theatrically and on network and cable television, as well as festivals including South By Southwest, Tribecca, Camerimage, etc.
Jayson also served as the Technical Editor for A SHOT IN THE DARK, a book about digital cinematography and lighting. When he’s not shooting he’s enjoyed teaching Cinematography workshops and seminars across the US, the Philippines, and Kosovo.
Jayson holds a BA from Columbia College Chicago as well as an MFA from the American Film Institute. He is a member of Local 600.
