Deepak joined Tesla Motors as CFO in 2008 while Tesla was a pre-revenue company in the start-up stage. He was part of the senior leadership team who led the dramatic expansion of Tesla over the next 7+ years to a multi-national presence in over 20 countries, a large manufacturing footprint in California, and annual revenues of approximately $5B by 2015. During this period Deepak led the Tesla IPO and helped to raise approximately $5B from various funding sources, including a $450 million loan from Department of Energy, issuance of equity, convertible notes and lines of credit.
Prior to joining Tesla, Deepak served in various positions at Ford Motor Company from 1993 to 2008, which provided him a wide perspective of the automotive industry from exposure to manufacturing, marketing & sales, Treasury, product development and acquisitions/divestitures.
Prior to Ford, Deepak worked as an engineer for over 5 years at Kennametal, Inc to develop ceramic composite cutting tools to perform high speed machining of aluminum alloys used in automotive and aerospace industries. During this period he obtained several patents.
Deepak presently serves on the Board of FireEye.
Deepak holds an M.S.I.A. from Carnegie Mellon University, an M.S. in materials engineering from Northwestern University and a B. Tech in ceramic engineering from Banaras Hindu University in India.
